Glossary
In-person (in-store) identity verification is confirming a customer’s identity at a physical location, a branch, store, or kiosk, increasingly using the same digital document and biometric tools that power remote verification. It matters where regulation, risk, or customer preference calls for a face-to-face step, and where a unified system should handle both channels consistently.
The old assumption was that in-person verification meant a human glancing at an ID. In practice, people are poor at spotting good forgeries, so the modern approach brings digital verification into the physical setting.
At a branch or kiosk, staff (or the customer at a self-service device) scan the ID document and capture a selfie, running the same document authentication, biometric matching, and liveness checks used online. This raises assurance above a human eyeball check and, crucially, records the verification in the same system as digital channels, so there is one consistent identity record regardless of where the customer showed up.
Handling in-person and digital verification on one platform is the point. It gives consistent assurance across channels, a single customer record (supporting omnichannel identity), and one place to manage compliance. Treating the branch as a disconnected process recreates silos; treating it as another capture channel for the same verification engine keeps identity coherent everywhere.
What is in-person identity verification?
Confirming identity at a physical location, increasingly using the same digital document and biometric tools as remote verification.
Why not just rely on a human checking the ID?
People are poor at spotting good forgeries; digital verification raises assurance and records it consistently.
Why handle in-person and digital verification together?
One platform gives consistent assurance, a single customer record, and unified compliance across channels.
